The reputation of Dubrovnik as one of Europe’s most irresistible destinations stretches back hundreds of years. At the beginning of the 19th century, Lord Byron visited on his way to Greece and described it as “the Pearl of the Adriatic”, while George Bernard Shaw later said, “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik.” No doubt this praise has made its mark on The reputation of Dubrovnik over time, but travellers from around the world need no second invitation to experience this remarkable medieval city.
Registered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1979, history is alive in every part of this incredible destinaion . Each nook and cranny hides a secret and every building and monument has its own tale to tell. A mighty wall surrounds the city, which at 1,940 metres long, is perfectly preserved for visitors to walk around and explore this timeless destination.
This is a city for all seasons and each offers the perfect time to visit. With its rich history, warm hospitality, excellent tourist infrastructure easily accessible central European location, Dubrovnik has rightly become a globally renowned destination.
The city is famous for its festivals and events. Visitors revel in unforgettable evenings where virtuoso music emanates from the atria of the city’s palazzi, as moonlight shimmers on the serene Adriatic. In the height of summer the polished limestone slabs of the Stradun reflect the beauty of the buildings above.
Dubrovnik has also become a popular film and TV destination in recent years.
The televsion series Game of Thrones has been filmed here since 2011. Star Wars: The Last Jedi was shot in Dubrovnik in 2016, while the Robin Hood: Origins film was filmed in the city in 2017. The Bollywood classic Fan, starring one India’s most famous actors, Shah Rukh Khan, was also filmed here. All these popular series and films are bringing more and more fans to to this amazing place.
Dubrovnik is unique among international cities. The city exhibits jaw-dropping architecture at every turn and has enough history to intrigue for a lifetime.
